Assessor Training
We strongly recommend that any Assessment Panel receives thorough training prior to the event. The process of Assessment is a complex one and not all assessors may have experience in this approach. The assessors are critical in ensuring consistency, fairness, accuracy, validity and reliability. To train the Assessors, typically we offer a combination of text based distance learning and a workshop. The pack covers:
- Why use Assessment Centres?
- The role of the assessor
- Key skills of an assessor
- The competences being assessed
- Behavioural observation and evaluation
- The use of the rating scale
- The documentation - its importance to selection, feedback and Industrial Tribunal
- Integrating the data.
The pack also covers worked examples, along with some exercises for assessors to complete. Additionally, Assessors are given a help line number to call. As Assessors are usually senior managers, most clients find this approach minimises precious time away from the office. To supplement the distance learning, and give skills practice, we offer a workshop to Assessors. This enables assessors to:
- Clarify their role
- Detail the competences for each exercise
- Explain the logistics for each exercise
- Identify best practice to ensure Equal Opportunities
- Complete relevant documentation
- Agree how they will approach the data integration session.
