Useful where an internal applicant is applying for promotion, and ensures all those who move forward have a realistic chance of success. A common question asked by internal applicants is "How much weight is given to my previous performance?" If this is a pre-requisite the procedure is given much more credibility.

For large numbers of candidates, tests can be bureau scored and results produced within two working days. For Development centres, tests usually include aptitude tests, not just ability tests.
