Assessment Process
Following review of your CV and of samples of your training materials, the next stage in the process is an Assessment Day held at our offices in Doncaster.
During the assessment day, the first activity you will be involved in is a verbal critical reasoning test. This ability test is a paper and pencil multiple-choice questionnaire which measures your ability to reason with verbal information.
This test is important as we have found that, where people do well on the test, this has a strong positive correlation with satisfaction rates from end of course reactionnaires. In the past, we did not set a minimum standard, and used the results from the test as just one piece of the selection jigsaw. However, we found that problems emerged when we appointed individuals who did not do well on the test, despite a good training session and interview.
This may be a factor more to do with our client base than with how adept a trainer an individual is. Nonetheless, it is an important indicator of success for us. So, we choose to be quite open about this, and do the test as the first activity. We feel it would not be appropriate to ask a person to continue with another 2 hours of personality testing, interview and training session if we know we will not be choosing them as a consultant.
Following successful completion of the Ability Test, you will then take part in:
- An Occupational Personality Questionnaire.
- A 30-minute interview. The interview will focus (but not exclusively), on subject matter expertise, and communication skills.
- 30 minute training session. You then facilitate a 30 minute training session. We require you to use both flipcharts and PowerPoint for your session. We will be looking for evidence of facilitation and communication skills, and subject matter expertise. On the latter, ensure the topic you select enables you to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge on management and interpersonal skills development, and an in depth, leading edge expertise on at least one topic area.
Following the assessment process, we take up references and then field you on courses that are 'double-headed', with an experienced dls consultant to support you.
